Success Story: Elaine Grainger
My success story is a total lifestyle change that is all about me. I never imagined
that I would be saying that, but, it is what I needed to do.I’d lost my own life
& identity with traveling out of town each week for work, working 12+ hours each
day (never seeing daylight) and the rest of my time involved eating and sleeping.
My story has a harsh beginning with being down at work in Washington, D.C. and doing
a major crash and burn. I couldn’t believe how it hit me so suddenly. Out of this
began my amazing journey.
I started by hearing about the affects of diet soda (weight pain, mood swings) and
it had a great impact on me. I had been consuming diet drinks morning, noon and
night. I did my own ceremonial goodbye by pitching my cans of soda out onto the
back patio and never looked back.
A few months later, a friend of mine called to ask if I would be interested in going
with her to a weight loss program. I knew I was sliding towards morbidly obese and
I agreed to go. That was a year and a half ago.
"GL" means "Great Life" to me.
My weight loss of > 115 lbs is one of my proudest achievements. It has had an amazing
impact on my life. I did not realize I was missing out on so many simple pleasures.
After getting a bit of weight off, I was ready to start to move and introduce activity
into my daily life. The first thing I did was look into several fitness centers.
GoodLife was exactly what I needed. It was somewhere that had a real concern about
their clients and ensured that you felt great about being there. I also knew that
because I lived across the street that there would be absolutely no excuse for not
going to my workouts.
My gift to me for Christmas 2006 was my purchase of a membership at GoodLife along
with Personal Training sessions. I knew that a Personal Trainer was essential for
me to provide that motivation I was lacking. It’s the greatest thing that I’ve ever
done for myself.
